Meet the Staff:

JASON PATTERSON, editor/publisher

Jason Patterson is the editor and publisher. He oversees the entire operation of the newspaper. He is responsible for ensuring that the newspaper is profitable while also providing the best community news and most effective advertising option in our coverage area. He is a veteran journalist and has won many awards for writing and photography during his career. Jason is a fourth generation Yazooan and is involved in many civic activities. He is a past president of the Yazoo Lions Club and has served two terms as president of the Yazoo Chamber of Commerce. He has been with The Yazoo Herald since 2006.



JAMIE PATTERSON, managing editor

Jamie Patterson is the managing editor of The Yazoo Herald. After earning her degree in journalism from Delta State University, she worked at both weekly and daily newspapers before joining The Herald staff in 2007. Jamie has won numerous awards for writing and photography, including the Bill Minor Award for In Depth/Investigative Reporting in 2010. She is involved in many civic activities, and is a member and past president of the Yazoo City Lions Club and the Yazoo Rotary Club. Jamie is married to Herald Publisher Jason Patterson, and they have three children, James, Elsie and Jase.



TAYLOR HAWKINS, sports editor

Taylor Hawkins is the sports editor. Taylor earned a reputation for excellence as a journalism student at Delta State University. After earning degrees in journalism and English, Taylor joined The Herald staff in 2013. He is a talented writer and is committed to providing the best quality sports coverage to our community. Taylor is a native of Belzoni.



SHARON MYERS, advertising manager

Sharon Myers is the advertising manager. She manages the advertising department and ensures that our customers get the best value for their money. Sharon works directly with our customers to understand their needs and establish plans marketing plans that get results. Sharon is a native of Yazoo City and a 1988 honors graduate of Yazoo City High School. Sharon says she loves her work, but her greatest achievement is her wonderful and supportive husband Mitch and her three children, Amber, Dustin and Jacob.



SHEILA TRIMM YOUNG, classifieds manager

Sheila Trimm Young is the manager of classifieds and legal advertising and handles numerous responsibilities in the business office. She has won many awards for advertising during her career and created the popular features “Hello Yazoo” and “Who’s Cooking” that appear in the newspaper each week. Sheila is a Yazoo City native.


KAYE ODOM, bookkeeper/circulation manager

Kaye Odom is the bookkeeper and circulation manager. She is responsible for billing and collections for display advertising, payroll, accounts payable and financial statements. She and her husband Terry are longtime Yazoo residents.





Jackson’s water and sewer cash fund should stay afloat at least until the summer.
